San Diego Blood Bank has created and designed a cost savings initiative with an Inventory Management System. This system increases efficiency by automating the blood component inventory, ordering and delivery processes by minimizing redundancy. A time study analysis at a local hospital determined this Inventory Management System can reduce staff time from administrative tasks of routine blood inventory counting and ordering by an hour per day. The Inventory Management System operates off a simple data feed which contains no patient data. The dashboard can be customized to hospital needs and shows short dated or soon to expire units, which allows for a reduction in expired units.
